On Friday, November 4th, Select Women’s Ensemble and Men’s Ensemble went to Georgia Southern University for its annual invitational choral competition. The women performed first winning 3rd place overall. The men competed with the women as a combined concert choir and Won 2nd place overall in that category. Hillgrove was the only school to place in both categories.
“I felt confident going in and singing I felt like we did good but you know there’s always someone better. We probably should have gotten at least second,” said Junior, Jasmine Johnson.
They left at 5:00am and arrived there around 10:00am.The trip was around 4 hours and when they arrived the girls were first to perform out of the two groups. They sang Vere languores nostros and Tota Pulchra es Maria. They competed up against about 6 other schools in Georgia including McEachren.
“I think we did our best. I think that we could have done better, to be honest, but, it’s just more experience for us.”(Marylou Setherland, 10) The concert choir sang at 2:00pm. They sang Flower of Beauty and Musik's Empire. The concert choir competed against about 11 other schools total. “The choir as a whole faced many challenges with the judges because they were really critical” (C Who?????, 11) The judges and clinicians that worked with both groups after each performance gave positive feedback and suggestions. Not only were they helpful but did not neglect to praise the choral director, Wes Stoner.
