Ethnic Studies’ Day Out

This past Thursday, the ethnic studies class, taught by Coach Salam, decided to take a trip downtown for a Civil Rights tour of Atlanta. The tour started at the MLK center and then continued throughout the city on the bus. The students ate lunch at the CNN Center and then headed back to school.

The students had a great time exploring the city and learning more about the civil rights movement in Atlanta. “I had a really fun time,” Junior Alex Escribano said. “I learned a lot. The tour guide was really informative and pointed out a lot of things in Atlanta that I’ve seen and passed by dozens of times and never knew he significance of.”

“It was nice to be able to learn about the Civil Rights Movement in a place where it actually happened instead of in a classroom,” Immanuel Powell, a senior in the class, said.

Because his field trip was such a success, the Ethnic Studies class plans to take more field trips in the future. Who knows, maybe you will get to go on the next one! “I had a lot of fun!” sophomore Chloe Dwyer said. “I want to take more trips like this. It was really cool to see Atlanta in a new way.”
