With winter on the way, many winter sports are starting to get in shape to have the best season possible. The athletes are giving it their all in order to not only meet team goals, but also to meet personal goals. Wrestling workouts are well underway and the wrestlers have already placed first at a meet at Alexander High School. So it is safe to say that the hard work of the pre-season paid off.
Pre-season workouts are not only essential to get the boys into shape, but also to build a tight bond amongst the boys and help them work as a unit. Kobe Hicks, a senior, says the team is “ picking up the intensity at practice and lifting a lot in the pre-season. We are trying to perfect our technique, get our strength better and build up our endurance.” Kobe has been on the wrestling team for all 4 years and is excited to see what the team can accomplish this season.
With a fresh start of the season the boys have stated team goals and personal goals as well. According to Ethan Willis, a sophomore who has wrestled for eight years, the boys are “trying to win state.”
Since wrestling is essentially a solo sport, personal goals are very important. Ricky Roberto, a freshman who has been “wrestling since he can remember,” has a personal goal to “make it to state as a freshman and have at least 40 wins this season.”
The boys are aiming high and are working intensely to reach their goals.
Evidently, the team is off to a great start and their hard work both in the wrestling room and at home is paying off. The Hawks made state last year and they hope to continue the trend. This would make all of them very proud and the Hawks wrestlers are extremely deserving. Good luck hawks!
