Varsity Soccer Hawks Defeat Hoyas

For the first time in Hillgrove history, the Varsity boys soccer team beat Harrison High School on Tuesday, February 14. The team has a 2-2 record and is coached by head coach Merrill. They beat the Hoyas 1-0, with the goal scored by AJ Jallow and the assist by Adrian Petrie.

AJ said, “Honestly, in the first half it looked like we were going to lose. Then, about twenty minutes into the game, I scored. It felt good because we’ve never beaten them before. The season has been a little rough so far, but this game was a morale booster.”

There is a long history between Hillgrove and Harrison when it comes to soccer. Neither the girls or boys soccer teams have been able to beat them in Hillgrove’s 9-year hist

ory. Before Harrison’s team came in very confident for the game. Before the game, some of the Hoya players made comments on the internet that provided the Hawks with plenty of bulletin board material. “When we saw what they were posting, it put a fire in us to play well and get the job done.” Jallows said.

Hopefully, they will keep the positive energy going as they play their next game against Kennesaw Mountain High School on February 28.
