Our Hillgrove baseball team has been off to a great start! After lots of hard work at practice and in the weight room, they are getting the results they want. They are impressing everyone as they claim victories with a solid defense and offense.

They beat Whitewater on Friday, 5-4. Luke Torbert pitched extremely well, and Dalton Kent came in and also did well as a relief.

Also, on Tuesday, our hawks traveled to Roswell and defeated the hornets 13-0. Luke Torbert pitched another great game with 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. Dalton Kent came in, and secured the win.

The Hawks had 13 hits overall in the game. Jacob Warren got 4 hits and hit a homerun the fourth inning. Also, the Hawks had zero errors in the game.

Luke Torbert (senior), said, “I expect the season to go very well, with a good outcome once region comes around and right now we are just trying to get things all together.”

He is looking forward to more successful games, fueled by hard work at practice. The team is excited for the upcoming season ahead.

He also said, “Our team goals are to make it very deep in the state playoffs and continue to play hot like we played last night.”

As the team sets their goals, they know there are always lots of things to work on if they want to continue to do well. They have long practices every day after school, and on the weekends.

Jorden Powser (junior) said, “We have played decent so far but we have room to improve if we want to go deep in the playoffs.”

The team has started off tremendously, and they have high standards set for themselves. As they continue to work hard and prepare for more games, their goals remain the same; go far in the playoffs and make it to state.

Coach Alverson said, “If we execute at a high level, we have a chance to be pretty good.”
