Hillgrove is a school filled with many talented individuals, all capable of reaching for the stars. One of our peers, Nathan Hill, is that star. A Star Student is a scholar in the Top Ten percent of the senior class with the highest SAT score. Nathan is 16 years old and graduating early, and he was surprised to find out the title he won, scoring a whopping 1570 on the SAT. When his achievement was announced, the Marietta Daily Journal covered this story, and his friends and family were extremely proud of this accomplishment. As a Star Student, Nathan was asked to recognize a teacher that helped him on his journey through high school. He picked Dr. Spruill, head of the English department.
We asked Dr. Spruill about what she thought on being acknowledged by Nathan, she was eager to inform us about the wonderful, hardworking student he was in her classroom. She pronounced, “One of the things I like about him is that he’s quietly confident. He listens first and then takes action. He has these surprises because he’s not really talkative, like when he talks it’s something smart or funny, that's something that surprised me about him.”
Dr. Spruill didn’t seem surprised at all about the title he had won, speaking about how smart he is, not only mathematically, but by his ability to think outside the box. She tells us that she was pleasantly surprised to be Nathan’s choice; although they had a great teacher - student relationship, usually Star Students pick a math or science teacher.
Again, we would like to say congratulations to Nathan Hill for winning such a honorable title and representing Hillgrove High School with this great achievement, and we hope you continue to shine like a star.
