Senioritis /ˈsēnyər/ītis/ (noun)-the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school careers.
As the semester comes closer to ending, the seniors are Pinning their favorite dorm accessories and getting ready for their futures, the sophomores are getting geared up to finally be upperclassmen, and the freshmen are excited to simply just not be freshmen. The juniors, however get the honor of facing college decisions, ACT’s, SAT’s, and one last shot at improving the GPA they’ve neglected since freshmen year, and the ever feared, but ultimately inevitable- senioritis.
Of course senioritis can’t be proven-nor defended-but it is in fact real and takes over the majority of the senior class right when it’s least favorable. Just when it’s your last shot to get in all the requirements for your dream school, you’re faced with the physical inability and mental repulsiveness to do homework, projects, tests, and presentations.
To be fair, after 12 years of school, the last thing you want to do is more school, so it’s entirely understandable that you would slack off as your public school career dies. However, this is logically the worst time for this to happen.
To help make senioritis manageable keep in mind that there is one last year of high school studying and cramming and busting to get whatever is necessary to get into the school you want. If you let senioritis take you, you’ll look back and regret skipping your homework just to catch up on a show that’ll be on Netflix forever. So do the right thing and work your hardest for 180 more days and know that this time next year, you too will be pinning your favorite dorm accessories and getting ready for your future.
