In April 19th, Starbucks released the limited-time “flavor-changing, color-changing, totally not-made-up” Unicorn Frappuccino. It’s supposed “...magical flavors start off sweet and fruity transforming to pleasantly sour.” Getting high praise on its colorful and adorable presentation, the drink was completely instagram worthy. In recent interviews, students revealed that the drink did not live up to its enchanting promotion.
Senior Taylor Smith claims, “Overall, it’s kind of overrated. Flavor wise, it tasted like white chocolate mocha and blue raspberry together. It wasn’t bad but it was just super overrated. I expected “wonderland” and it was just very plateaued. I guess I would suggest it to others, I mean it looks nice.”
Sophomore Cody Duncan said, “It was good but it was overly sugary; the sugar completely overpowered it. I liked the sour in it but it really only showed up at the beginning from the whipped cream. Overall, I think the flavors just kind of blended together. It was really pretty though. I wouldn’t really suggest it to anyone else, I guess if they wanted to take a good Instagram picture.”
In general, the “magical” frappuccino is not so magical and enchanting after-all. If the item ever does appear on the menu, or possibly a seasonal item, it would not be recommended outside of a cute Instagram post.
