Spring football is starting up at the Grove! Our football players are excited to work hard these next two weeks, in preparation for the spring game against Pebblebrook.
Adjusting to life without Coach Sanderson and Coach Nix is difficult, but our players and coaches are adjusting. Our wide receiver, Chigoziem Okonkwo says, “We are working on technique tackling and learning since we have new coaches. Mostly everything is slowed down and we are trying to adjust to Coach Nix and Sanderson leaving.” This hard work is in preparation for the upcoming season, starting in the end of August.
The team runs through position drills, compete in one on one’s, do team competitions, and do scrimmages. Every day after school, the boys go outside and practice for hours. Our players are working on new plays and new drills with our new coaches, getting them ready for the games ahead.
Coach Wishon, our lineman coach, says, “Spring football is important because it gives us an idea of where certain players will play in the fall.”
In preparation for the Hillgrove football season, the coaches and players continue to improve on all aspects of the game; making them more and more excited for the “real” season ahead.
Hunter Arters, our quarterback, says, “Spring football gets all the guys back together and get in shape and compete with each other. It helps build a bond for the upcoming season.”
Come out on May 12th and support our Hillgrove football players in their spring game at Pebblebrook!
